After serving in the US Navy as a weather observer, Joyce worked in Texas for over 30 years as a finance executive. During the mid 90’s she lived and worked in Moscow Russia where, surrounded by glorious art, an early interest in representational painting was renewed.

After returning to the States and as time allowed, she began studying art with nationallyrecognized subject experts: Jill Carver, Scott Christensen, Skip Whitcomb, Colley Whisson, Martin Grelle and Bruce Greene among others.

Now a full time artist living in Port Townsend, WA Joyce creates in oils - using an impressionist style - painting both en plein air and the studio. Her works have been juried into regional shows (where she has received a number of awards) and national shows (including with the prestigious American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America).

"I’d rather be someplace else. Not in a line. Not in a waiting room. Not on a zoom call. Often just someplace else. My thoughts regularly return to another place and time: hiking on an autumn trail with the sun low in the sky, coaxing tidewaters out to sea past sculpted mudflats, chatting with the critters. Being a representational oil painter allows me to be there instead.
