"This jewel of a painting sprung from a hike after the last snowfall of the year on the North Shore of Lake Quinault. On this day the sunlight and shadows on the snow were scintillating. I love the oil and cold wax medium for its matte paint surface and impasto. This painting was created on an orange imprimatura, revealed with sgraffito to indicate sunlight on the branches. I often say of my work that “the paint surface is a landscape of its own.”  That is certainly true with this effervescent little painting."
